CheapMeal Please note: the info in this article was correct at the time of writing JB’s Corner One of my favourite spots when I have a tight budget is JB’s Corner. Their menu features a great selection of items for under R100 – from pastas and pizza to burgers and nachos, there is something for everyone. According to my boyfriend, the Dagwood Burger is great! 100g homemade BBQ beef patty, melted cheddar, bacon, ham, easy over egg, fresh tomato and 1000 Islands sauce on toasted white bread served with chips for only R69! They have a great selection of schwarmas from the delicious Lamb schwarma (in pita with a salad) for R65 to the healthy Salad in Pita for R40. They also serve your favourite meat and fillings in laffa and they have a fab collection of Chef Specialties and burgers to choose from. Most of the options on their menu costs under R100. Doppio Zero If you are feeling a bit tight in the pocket, but want a good meal that will give you more bang for your buck, then head down to Doppio Zero in Greenside. The majority of the meals on their menu cost under R100 and they are sure to have something to satisfy a cravings. One of my favourites from here is their filling Alfredo (country ham, mushrooms, garlic and parmesan cream sauce) for only R68. The Chicken Schnitzel (served with chips, a side salad and a delicious sweet chillinnaise sauce I just CAN’T get enough of!) is my usual, and it’s only R74 for a huge piece of schnitzel with all the trimmings! For more information, visit their website. Da Vincenzo Looking for affordable Italiano? Then try out Da Vincenzo out in Kyalami. They have a fab selection of pastas, pizzas, gnocchi and risotto and the entire menu is all under R100. Great Italian food that won’t hurt your wallet! I definitely wouldn’t mind trying the Messicana Pizza for R78. Mince, green peppers, mushrooms, onions and a touch of chilli for some spiciness. For more information, visit their website. Cappello I visit Cappello in Norwood on a regular basis for a good Saturday afternoon snack. This is the perfect place to relax, people watch and tuck into something delicious. They serve a great selection of meals whether you’re just a little peckish or ravenous, and most of the menu is under R100. I never pass up their Nachos for R64, but their Cordon Bleu Schnitzel is also a winner! Filleted chicken breast, crumbed and panfried then baked with ham, Mozzarella cheese and mushroom sauce served with chips for R85. For more information, visit their website. Col’ Cacchio For a great selection of delicious pizzas at affordable prices head down to Col’ Cacchios! They offer you a wide selection of dishes to choose from whether you are in the mood for a late night breakfast, wraps, meat, pizza and pastas. The Cacciatore is delicious! A creamy pasta with chicken, mushrooms, bell peppers, onion and garlic for R66.50. Note, Catz has moved to Randburg from their old home in Melville... and back to Randburg again. Ferndale to be exact. For more information, visit their website. Simply Asia If you are in the mood for some Thai food but have a tight budget, then why not try out Simply Asia? Everything on their menu is under R100 and it all sounds so divine, I have no clue what I would order! The Ped Phad Khew-Wan sounds like a winner in my books – tender roasted duck in a green curry sauce stir-fried with butternut, red pepper, brinjal, chilli and basil for R79!
