According to the South African Weather Service, the storm was kicked up by strong north-westerly winds pumping through the eastern Highveld areas of South Africa, including Gauteng. Recorded wind speeds were between 35km/h and 70km/h (as recorded by local airports). Needless to say, local amateur and professional photographers took to Instagram to capture the storm.
