'Hot' Curry Spots Around The City

Joburg Admin / February 6, 2019

Bikaner

On Linden’s main strip, hides one of Joburg’s best kept secrets. Bikaner is a family-run restaurant that hits the right spot when we crave spicy food. From Paneer Palak to some of the best garlic naan, it’s all under one roof at this gem of an Indian restaurant. And best of all, it's not as expensive as you think it is. Everything on their menu is reasonably priced and oh-so-delicious. Details: 074 030 8778 | 37 4th Ave & 7th St, Linden, Johannesburg.

Satkar Indian Cuisine

Situated on 4th Avenue in Melville, Satkar Indian Cuisine boasts a regular clientèle, which proves that the food is good. Do your taste buds a favour and swing by this restaurant on a Sunday and take advantage of the buffet on display. Tandoori chicken for the win. Also, don't forget to visit their site to find out about their currents specials. Wondering what's on the menu? Click here to suss it out. Lugz

From pleasant conversation with the restaurant’s owner to some of the best mutton curry and Bunny Chows in Randburg, Lugz at Canterbury Crossing in Ferndale flaunts its stuff in the kitchen. It’s also a popular lunchtime hot spot for those working in the area. You can either sit at the restaurant and relax or you can grab something delicious on the go. This is definitely one of our favourite spots for samoosas too! Details: 011 781 6244 | Canterbury Crossing, 117 Bram Fischer Drive, Ferndale, Randburg, Johannesburg.

Thava Indian Restaurant

Thava is another one of our favourites, especially if we're in the Norwood side of town on a chilly day. Their menu offers a wide variety of vegetarian, lamb, chicken and seafood dishes, along with classic and fragrant curries, biryanis, stews, spicy Tandoori and Masala dishes. the curries are amazing, and you'll definitely want to mop up every last bit of sauce with their traditional breads or rice. Usually after a meal of spicy goodness, some sweet Indian temptations or a specialty coffee goes down nicely. Details: [email protected] | 011 728 2826 or 084 737 8776 | 44 The Avenue & Grove Road, The Gardens, Norwood, Johannesburg. Curry

Dosa Hut

If you're looking for authentic south Indian cuisine that won't cost you an arm and a leg, then you'll definitely want to stop by Dosa Hut in Fordsburg. It's your typical Indian restaurant that offers everything from Thali and Rotis to biriyani and of course, dosas. But, what makes it stand out is its rich flavours which will have you coming back for more. You'll want to try everything on this restaurant's menu. Details: [email protected]061 300 8946 | Shop 6, 48 Central Road, Fordsburg, Inner City, Johannesburg.

Banjaara Indian Restaurant

There are a few branches throughout the city, so no matter where you are, you can get your hands (and taste buds) on some good curry this winter. Make your way to either the Lonehill, Boskruin, Bedfordview, Ruimsig, Randpark Ridge or Douglasdale restaurant and enjoy some moreish Samoosas, bunny chows and roti rolls, Tandoori Chicken, biriyanis, kormas, masala and vindaloo curries and so much more. Details: Click here| 011 465 8271 / 8326 | Leaping Frog Shopping Centre, Corner William Nicol and Mulbarton Road, Lonehill , Johannesburg. Curry

The Curry Palace

Now over to Ferndale, Randburg. Another great spots to get some spicy, delicious and aromatic curries is The Curry Palace. One of our favourite dishes from here is the Lamb Korma (mild) with some naan bread to soak up the rest of the sauce. Yum! All of their dishes are served with rice, serve in your choice of heat (mild, medium or hot) and of course, everything on the menu is Halaal. Details: [email protected] | 011 781 6750/1 | Ferndale Village Shopping Centre, corner Main and Oxford Streets, Ferndale, Randburg, Johannesburg.

Red Chilli Spice

This is where the spice is at. Red Chilli Spice in Craighall Park is worth your attendance. One of their most popular dishes would be the Tadka Dahl which is lentils tempered with cumin seeds and garnished with fried chillies. The food is good, the hot stuff is definitely HOT (then again, medium is also HOT for some of us) and the vibe is awesome. We've heard that this spot is in the lead for the best breyani in the city. And if you're looking to eat in, they're on Uber Eats! Details: [email protected] | 082 727 7798 | The Colony Shopping Centre, Upper Level, 345 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall Park, Johannesburg. Curry
