Top Charity Apps All Joburgers Should Be Using

Joburg Admin / July 4, 2017

If you want to get involved and fight the good fight but don't know where to begin, then we suggest you start at the Play Store with these nifty charity apps.  Snap Donate Wouldn’t it be great to be able to donate to charity even if you had no cash with you? The next time a good cause inspires you, download SnapDonate, the free app for giving on the go. Point your phone at your choice of charity logo and – in a snap – you will have helped. SnapDonate is like a ‘magic lens’ for making quick one-off gifts to charity. There are no SMS numbers nor QR codes to scan. And it works everywhere: whether out in the street, on a bus, or from your living room floor. ShareTheMeal In association with the United Nations World Food Programme, ShareTheMeal is a crowdfunded mobile app that aims to feed those in need. This nifty slice of modern tech enables users to make small donations to specific WFP (World Food Programme) projects and to track its progress. As of August 2016, ShareTheMeal has over 800 000 downloads and 13 million meals shared. Google awarded ShareTheMeal as one of the Best Apps of 2016 in the “Most Innovative” category. Donate A Photo The free donation app from Johnson & Johnson takes your photos and turns them into a way to do good. For every photo you share through Donate a Photo, Johnson & Johnson will donate R15 to the charity of your choice. Your photos can do things like help a newborn breathe with Save the Children, get school supplies for a girl in Guatemala with Girl Up, or help an amputee walk again. Charity Miles If you’re the type of person who likes to make a difference, then we’ve got something for you: Charity Miles. Walk your dog, grab a coffee, go for a run, bike around the neighbourhood – that’s how simple and easy Charity Miles is to use. By moving for a purpose, you earn money from corporate sponsorships for charity whenever you walk, run or bike. Gem Project What if you could earn money and help society at the same time, would you do it? Of course, you would. Well the GEM project is a mobile rewards platform that is trying to achieve just that. David Shields is the co-founder of GEM Project, an organisation based in South Africa that uses a mobile payments platform to reward volunteer service in local communities. Download the app and find out where and how you can do good deeds in your neighbourhood. By helping out, you get rewarded with GEMs (1 GEM = R1 ).
