Stop Hunger Now Meal Packing

Stop Hunger Now is hosting a meal packing event in Times Square in Menlyn on 18 July. These meal packing events are held all over the country and are aimed at businesses to encourage teams of 20 employees to pack meals for 67 minutes as their contribution towards Mandela Day. Each corporate team should aim to pack 3 200 meals in their 67 -minute time slot – this provides 15 children with five meals a week for an entire year. Registration forms for participation in this event are available online.

The Viva Foundation Mandela Day Volunteer Opportunities

The Viva Foundation runs a variety of childcare and education projects in Mamelodi. For Madiba Day, Viva has a variety of individual and team-volunteering opportunities that include painting, gardening, cleaning and children’s activities happening on-site at the Viva Village in Mamelodi East. The Viva Foundation also has financial sponsorship opportunities – for R450 you can sponsor a child at Viva Kids for a whole month.

New Beginningz is a local NPO that focuses on providing care for children living on the streets, from abandoned newborn babies to children of 18 years of age. There exists a large need for baby toiletries and food such as nappies, wipes, bum cream, good quality bottles, receiving blankets, Purity fruits and non-perishable food items. Putting together a hamper with these items, to deliver to New Beginningz, is a great way to make a real-world contribution in caring for the future generation of our country.

This charity provides a confidential crisis intervention service that includes telephone counselling, face-to-face counselling, rape counselling and trauma counselling. Dogtown SA

Dogtown SA is a rehabilitation centre for abandoned dogs with an average of 150 dogs in their care. Dogtown SA needs volunteers to walk the furkids, give them some TLC and help clean doghouses and containers. There are two volunteer sessions, morning and afternoon, every day of the week and you can register as a volunteer by dropping them an e-mail.
