Tips On Saving Electricity

save electricity
  1. Turn your geyser temperature down to 60 degrees Celsius. This saves more electricity than keeping the temperature at the standard 70 degrees Celsius. You can hire a plumber to help you with the temperature adjustment as it needs to be done on the actual geyser.
  2. Use less hot water, so instead of taking a bath, take short showers. This also saves water - killing two birds with one stone. Also only fill and use the kettle when actually needed. Do your dishes and laundry only when they have a full load - use cold water where possible.
  3. Switch off appliances and electrical equipment when they're not in use. Switch off at the electrical socket to avoid the appliances from still drawing in about 20% or more of electricity while on standby and in normal use. Switch off the geyser when you're away.
  4. If you have a pool with a cleaning system pump, turn it off in winter and get a cover for it. In summer you can limit the operating hours of the pool pump to six hours a day for example. Also clean your filters regularly.
  5. Reduce excessive heating or cooling in either winter or summer. This is one of the most energy wasting things to do in your workplace or home. Instead, wear warmer clothes in winter and wear lighter clothes in summer.
