The Turbine Art Fair Returns This July

Joburg Admin / July 18, 2022

The Turbine Art Fair celebrates a decade of being Joburg's most accessible art fair this July. Bringing together exhibitors from all around Africa, the TAF offers both emerging and established artists a space to show their work. The fair is also one of the most trusted and affordable curated spaces to buy art. There are no bounds on who can and cannot view, enjoy, and purchase art at the Turbine Art Fair. It's a come one, come all affair, so book your tickets as soon as you can. You don't need to be an art major to revel in the variety of works on display this year.

The TAF is all about breaking boundaries and making art accessible to everyone. Join them from Thursday, 21 July to Sunday, 24 July 2022 at the Oxford Parks venue in Rosebank. Read on to find out more about this year's lineup of exhibitors and events:

An Underground Experience

The 2022 Turbine Art Fair is headed underground. Hosted at the trendy Oxford Parks venue, the fair is set to be one for the books. There is no specific theme for this year's fair, but the underground venue does elicit ideas around how deep one can go to exhibit art. Considering our country's history of censorship and the more recent challenges we have faced in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this theme seems deeply apt and resonant. Spectators will be delighted by the TAF's new modern and edgy approach to space, curation and exhibition. With close to 30 exhibitors, the fair looks to be a grand four-day exhibition of upcoming talent. Here are some of the exciting events you can attend at this year's Turbine Art Fair:

Talks and Walkabouts

Visiting an art fair for the first time can feel intimidating. Where do you even start? Join the TAF team for their guided walkabouts the talks throughout the duration of the fair. Walkabouts will be conducted daily using wireless headsets featuring voice overs from a range of experts and art lovers. There are only 20 spaces per walkabout, so it's essential that you book in advance. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get expert insight into the artworks on display at the fair, so don't miss out!

If you are looking to learn more about the art world and how to read art, join one of this year's TAF talks. These talks are designed to expand your knowledge and introduce you to new ways of thinking and seeing. A range of topics will be discussed, including how to build your own art collection and how to build a career in the arts. You can find the full lineup of talks on the Turbine Art Fair website. We hope to see you there.

The TAF Goes Digital

Over the passed few years we've seen a number of art fairs and festivals go digital. The 2021 Turbine Art Fair was hosted in-person and online via the Artsy platform. This year's TAF will go digital again, offering art lovers from across the country the chance to spectate and purchase art from the comfort and safety of their own spaces. This hybrid art affair only makes the TAF even more accessible and innovative than ever before. Download the Artsy app on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and start exploring all that the 2022 Turbine Art Fair has to offer.
