We have been eagerly awaiting the announcement that the NIROX Winter Sculpture fair would be returning in 2022. Our expectations have been far exceeded with the NIROX Foundation's announcement of this year's lineup of events and artist collaborations.
This year's Winter Sculpture Edition is an open laboratory, welcoming over 30 young artists to comment on and respond to the theme "Good Neighbours". The Foundation invited universities from across the country to appoint a curator to develop their own take on the theme. Universities from across Africa were invited to collaborate with these top makers and thinkers to present a a programme of exhibitions, workshops, talks and concerts. The outcome? A fantastic display of modern artistry and insightful interpretations on what it means to be a good neighbour.
Cradle of Creativity
If you've yet to visit the NIROX Sculpture Park, you're in for a wonderful surprise. Situated in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind, this is where art and nature meet. The NIROX Foundation has worked tirelessly since 2006 to promote the arts in South Africa. The Sculpture Park is their home base, offering artists a space to explore the limits of their imaginations. The Park also regularly hosts live music events, picnics and outdoor movie nights. It is a serene and secure spot to bask in a little sunshine and a whole lot of natural and manmade beauty.

Be a Good Neighbour
The NIROX Winter Sculpture Edition coincides with the celebration of Africa Month. Join them in reflecting on what it means to be a "good neighbour" and the current relations we as South Africans have with our African neighbours. The exhibition interrogates the definition of the words "good" and "neighbour" to assess the moral and physical implications of these words on our relationships with our local and broader communities.
The exhibition features new work from 30 artists who hail from all around the country and the continent. The opening weekend of the exhibition will feature a variety of events, including guided walkabouts, talks, workshops and performances. Visit the NIROX Sculpture Park between 7 - 8 May 2022 to be part of this exciting opening weekend lineup. The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra will perform under the trees on both days from 16:00 - 17:00. It's also Mother's Day weekend, so be sure to bring mom with! Get your tickets here.
Peace Concert
If you happen to miss the opening weekend festivities, fear not. The NIROX Foundation and Bandabanda Agency present the Peace Concert. A tranquil day of music and poetry in the park, the Peace Concert is dedicated to fostering a message of peace, love and generosity across a divided world. The day's lineup of performances will leave you feeling totally at peace and with a renewed respect for nature, art and humanity.
