What Is It?
The Market Theatre Lab has been at the forefront of performing arts training for over three decades. Following on from their recent success at the Nationals Arts Festival 2019, they present
Le Journal. Performed by the Market Lab's second year student ensemble,
Le Journal explores the ephemerality of the newsreel in our modern society. It asks, "Where do news headlines go to die?", as moving from one minute to the next determines the lifeline of news stories.
Mandla is an award-winning journalist who desperately wants to do his job. He naively believes in the power of journalism as a voice that reflects the masses. Yet, he finds himself in a skewed society where he cannot practice the values of good journalism. See Mandla fight against a policy that restricts the access to the truth.
Le Journal explores themes of identity, propaganda, individuality, control and agency, all the while questioning whether the news is used to serve or control the people? Get your tickets now!
