The Heidelberg Great Train Race

Joburg Admin / July 15, 2019

What Is It?

All aboard! The Reefsteamers Heidelberg Wanderer is headed on a 48 km journey this September, and you're invited. Join them for the Heidelberg Great Train Race event taking place at the Heidelberg Heritage Museum. Reefsteamers century-old steam train "Susan" will be your escort for the day. She may be a little slow on the incline, but she'll get you there in one piece guaranteed. So, sit back and relax as you slowly make your way out of the city. The Heidelberg Great Train Race features an impressive collection of vintage cars, motorcycles and aircraft. Join "Susan" and her fleet, as they salute a historical moment that took place in France in 1930 - a Bentley Sportsman Coupe beat France’s famous blue train in a 750 mile race! This great spectacle is definitely one you won't want to miss. Bring the kids along for a fun day out. Pack a picnic, or book a specialty picnic basket made by the Reefsteamers team.  Their food truck on Rails also offers tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cool drinks, still water, chips, sweets, chocolates, home made cupcakes and the famous Galaxy Fudge. Don't forget to take home a token from your day out. The Reefsteamers memorabilia table has t-shirts, books, DVD's, postcards and other goodies for you to remember your day forever. See you there!
