This upmarket eatery is based in three locations across Joburg, so there's no excuse to not pay them a visit. The menu at Lexi's focuses on healthy meals that are mostly plant-based. They have a wide variety of breakfast items from savoury stacks and gourmet toast to sweet treats and smoothie bowls. The Polenta Breakfast Stack is our definite must-try item. With earthy mushrooms, tart cherry tomatoes, vibrant green spinach and a seed and dukkha sprinkle on a bowl of polenta, this is one of the most unique breakfasts in the city.

Another venue serving all day breakfast, Jackson's Real Food Market has an in-store eatery in Bryanston and Kyalami. Not only do they cook up some of the tastiest vegan food in South Africa, but they also stock a wide variety of vegan snacks, treats, drinks and toiletries. Stop by on any morning for your fill of tasty vegan breakfasts. We adore the Breakfast Burrito, featuring a toasted tortilla stuffed with tofu scramble, seitan bacon, avo, salsa and black rice. Now serving a plethora of vegan options, The Whippet in Linden in your go-to for good coffee and good grub. Although not a vegan or health food hub, this coffee shop has a wide variety of healthy vegan meals to suit any palate. Our top choice is the Tofu Benedict, which offers smashed avo topped with tofu and vegan Hollandaise on a toasted English muffin. For something sweeter, we love the Almond, Chia and Strawberry French Toast, with golden fried vegan French toast, topped with caramalised banana and strawberries. With either choice, you'll be in breakfast heaven.
