The 9th Annual 24 Hours in the City Play Festival

Joburg Admin / July 29, 2019

What Is It?

If you haven't heard of it before, it's probably because you just aren't hip enough. The 24 Hours in the City Play Festival is the coolest theatre event in the city. Presented by POPArt Theatre in collaboration with the Market Theatre Laboratory, this one-of-a-kind festival is a must-attend for theatre lovers. Six writers, six directors and 24 actors are given 24 hours to devise a series of 10-minute plays. The very next day, these plays are performed to an audience. The risks are high, but the adrenaline of creating new work in such a short space of time is well worth it. Audiences are treated too, as the work is raw and ready. It's a gamble between seeing a complete disaster and a miraculous masterpiece. The 24 Hours in the City Play Festival will have its last run this August. As POPArt celebrate their 8th anniversary, they bring you one final round of mayhem and madness. You definitely don't want to miss this. All proceeds go toward sponsoring one year's tuition for a student at the Market Theatre Lab. So, come out and support a good cause, have a few laughs and celebrate the magic of theatre in the city.
