Take a Break with KitKat this Heritage Day

Joburg Admin / September 20, 2019

KitKat is undoubtedly one of South Africa's most loved chocolate bars. What is there not to love? Crisp wafer, smooth chocolate and that oh so satisfying snap! That's why in honour of National Heritage Day (24 September if you had forgotten), KitKat SA will be celebrating the diversities, quirks and cultures of all South Africans.

Celebrate Your City

KitKat SA invite you to take a well-deserved break with them this Heritage Day. Spend the day celebrating where you come from, whether it be a small town, the suburbs or the big city. Embrace your roots and explore the places that shaped you, taught you a valuable life lesson or helped you escape the hum drum of city life. KitKat are also celebrating the country's natural and man-made wonders, as well as the 'weirdness' of our country with their new look wrappers. Decorated with iconic prints from SA's many cultural groups, these proudly South African chocolate treats are a must have for your Heritage Day braai. Make a game out of it by inviting people of different backgrounds to your party. The new KitKat wrappers come complete with friendly greetings in all 11 official languages, so you can all have a go at saying Howzit! in each other's mother tongues. Check out their Facebook page for more information. KitKat

Braai Day Recipes

A braai wouldn't be complete without a delectable pudding. And, what could be more delicious than a KitKat inspired dessert?

Frozen KitKat Cheesecake Bites

Cool down from the heat of the fire (or the sun) with a couple of frozen KitKat cheesecake bites. Featured on The Foodies of SA blog a few weeks ago, these bite size puds are a must-try this Braai Day! Ingredients:
  • 2 tubs (500g) cream cheese
  • 60 ml hot water
  • ¼ cup castor sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 4 KitKat Originals 45 g

Recipe:

  1. Line a 20 x 20cm square baking dish with baking paper.
  2. Separate the KitKat fingers, layer them into the base of the baking dish (evenly spaced) and set aside.
  3. Add the cream cheese to a bowl and beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the sugar, vanilla essence and lemon juice and beat until smooth.
  5. Add the hot water slowly until the mixture is slightly runny.
  6. Dip the bottom of the KitKat fingers into the cream cheese mix (This ensures the fingers don't move when the mix is spooned on top) and layer them into the base of the baking dish (evenly spaced).
  7. Spoon the cream cheese mixture onto the KitKat base and freeze for 3-4 hours or until firm.
  8. Use the baking paper to remove the cheesecake from the dish and slice into bite sized pieces with a sharp knife.
  9. Top each of the bites with a fresh raspberry and a dusting of icing sugar before serving on a platter. ENJOY!
