Soweto Ink's Mental Awareness Campaign 2020

Soweto Ink Raises Awareness On Mental Health

Through this initiative, the parlour wants to make a change in their past memories and give them new memories to look at and also be proud of. The brand wants to help them by overcoming their current situation of mental health and depression challenges with this campaign and aimed at breaking the silence of those suffering. Soweto Ink wants people to gain their life back and move from old memories through the art of a tattoo. Sibusiso Dlamini and Ndumiso Ramate, who are the creators of Soweto Ink are planning to assist and help as many people as possible. The team thus plan to not keep this campaign for the month of October but instead grow the campaign and make awareness every time they can. Soweto Ink Soweto Ink is based in the heart of one of the most iconic townships in the country. Dlamini and Ramate are set on building an empire from a culture considered taboo in some black communities. Soweto Ink will be viewing the stories of those getting the tattoos through their YouTube channel. "The YouTube channel will be the space we create visual message and content to our followers. Because the campaign is visual, it will help others speak out, tell their stories and share the moment of creating new memories with these individuals," says Ramate.

About Soweto Ink

Ndumiso Ramate and Sibusiso Dlamini run a deeply influential tattoo parlour in the heart of Johannesburg, Soweto. Soweto Ink opened its doors in 2014, welcoming urban natives to celebrate tattoo culture. Soweto Ink prides itself in being the first black-owned professional tattoo shop in Soweto, which is also internationally recognised for being a historical township in the involvement of the emancipation of South Africa. The evolution of youth and culture throughout the township comes together in the brand recognising the impact and change the youth holds in its potential and talent. With its unorthodox contribution to make lifestyle changes and creating employment in the process through art, the studio has now six employees dedicating their vocation to changing the lives of each and every single one of its customers who walk in and out of the studio.
