What Is It?
Joburg Theatre will be hosting their first ever collaborated schools setworks festival in 2019. One of the shows on the line up is the legendary Sophiatown, which was first performed by the Junction Avenue Theatre Company way back in 1986. Under the highly experience musical direction of the State Theatre's Artistic Director, Aubrey Sekhabi, Sophiatown The Musical is an imaginative reconstruction of the original play.
Sophiatown is just as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. A story about unlikely friendships, determination and ultimate courage in the face of mass oppression, it is a definite must see. Take the kids along, especially if they have an interest in the dramatic arts. But, please be advised that there is an age restriction of 13.
