See Johannesburg ...Through Its Street Art

Joburg Admin / November 12, 2021

Eelco Meyjes loves street art. In fact, he loves it so much that he's created his very own bicycle and safari vehicle urban street tours to show people Johannesburg's most beautiful murals. Meyjes believes Johannesburg is the new graffiti mecca of the African continent, and his company eBiker is taking full advantage of that. They know of over 800 graffiti walls in the city, and have carefully curated their routes to show you the best of these. "Its no secret that many first time visitors to Johannesburg often comment on our high walls and electric fences. This reality has inadvertently created thousands of open air canvases for graffiti writers to share their work both legally and illegally," Meyjes writes on his website. "We now have some of the best graffiti writers in the world and some of them are now receiving commissions from both local as well as international corporates, governments, education centers and private individuals etc. Worldwide graffiti, or street art as it is now so often called, is arguably the biggest single modern art movement in the world." eBiker's November Graffiti Urban Safari Rides take place 20 and 27 November this month and are very popular, so booking is a must (details below). They start and end from the popular Delta Cafe in Dunkeld and are limited to nine guests only, with no children under the age of nine permitted. They offer three different routes: The Graffiti BIG 5 Game Drive Starts 7:30am.  Search for the graffiti versions of the BIG 5 animals in Jozi. Approximate tour time: 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Cost R 465pp The Graffiti Cub Tour Starts 11:30am  See some of the amazing graffiti in the Delta Park , Parkhurst, Parkview and Melville areas. Approximate tour time: 1  1/2 hours. Cost R350pp The Graffiti Masterpieces Ride Starts 3pm  See some of the best graffiti in Newtown and Braamfontein.  Approximate tour time: 2 1/2 to 3hour. Cost R465pp You will need to bring your own refreshments along, and no alcohol is allowed. eBiker also offers private midweek and corporate graffiti Urban Safari Tours in November that can be organised on special request.
