What Is It?

Sanell Aggenbach presents her new solo exhibition 'The Heart Has Many Rooms' at the Everard Read Gallery. The exhibition offers quiet meditation on affection: actual and implied. It will take over the two floors of the gallery, with the lower floor exhibiting Aggenbach's monochromatic paintings, her primary medium as art maker. Intimate, soft paintings capture the feeling of  abstract eroticism. The work upstairs presents a re-interpretation of Michelangelo’s Pietà. Echoing the original marble drapes of Mary’s tunic, Christ’s pale flesh and the composition of forms. Sanell Aggenbach offers her own version of the Madre Pietà (2019) which is a more playful reimagining of Michelangelo’s original. Madonna and Child are replaced by two plush toys cast in bronze. This sculpture stands two-metres tall, with its hard, polished surface coloured in deep warm tones. 'The Heart Has Many Rooms' encapsulates the artists affections - above, the devotion of mother and child, below, the private affairs of the heart. So, don't miss it.

When Is It?

The exhibition opens on Thursday, 18 July 2019 at 18:00 - 21:00. It will then be open to the public until Saturday, 24 August 2019. The gallery is open from Monday to Friday between 09:00 - 18:00, and on Saturdays from 09:00 - 13:00.
