Since the arrival of Roxanne's Rum Eatery on the Lonehill party scene, things haven't quite been the same. The flirty femme fatale has introduced old-school tattoo culture and rock 'n roll flair to this northern suburb, making it clear that life flows a bit differently here. But let's not get side-tracked – for that you can go read my original review of Roxanne's Rum Eatery when it first opened. This time around we're taking a look at the ample amount of vegan items that have been added to their already impressive food and drinks menu.
For brunch, check out the vegan meatballs served with corn tortillas and a tomato compote and sesame avo. It's a great and cruelty free way to get your day started. For lunch – or as a feel-good meal – check out the chilli toasty which comes as a meatless rendition of a toasted chilli con carne sandwich. Another fun lunch item is the tacos stuffed with cannellini beans and lentil balls, Roxanne's signature pink slaw, smashed black beans with guacamole and tomatillo sauce. Other interesting daytime entries include the chickpea balls served with curly fries and the vegan Buddha bowl made up of similar fillings as the tacos.
On that note, there seems to be a lot of repeat ingredients used throughout . Though the food is amazing, a bit more creativity would have gone a much longer way. Then again, ordering from anywhere else is a mission and a half with little to no cruelty free products on the line.
Moving on to big meals (or evening eats as I like to call them), we see vegan burgers and pizzas making an appearance, complete with vegan cheese (yeah, you read that right the first time). The burgers come on egg- and dairy free brioche buns, and the patties are home-made and served with egg-free mayo and curly fries. Come hungry as the food portions are massive. Other interesting items include cottage pie, meatballs and mash and a vegan smorgasbord of deep-fried and grilled veggies served with a vegan mayo dip. Roxanne's Rum Eatery now serves lattes and cappuccinos with almond milk too, rounding off your cruelty free eating extravaganza on a high note.
