Roche SA Walks The Talk To The Nelson Mandela Children's' Hospital

Joburg Admin / April 23, 2019

To raise funds, employees at the Roche Management Centre South Africa (MCSA)  made a donation to participate in the Roche Children’s Walk, which was then matched by the organisation. In 2018, R120 000 was raised for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital by 121 of Roche MCSA employees who participated in the Children’s Walk. Offering excellent healthcare services, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital is the second dedicated paediatric hospital in South Africa, and only the fifth in Africa.

At the 200-bed facility, the highly experienced medical professionals are committed to supporting and providing healthcare of high standards to patients with specialised needs and support for their families, regardless of their socio-economic status. Some of the services provided at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital include: Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic and General Surgery, Dialysis, Cardiology, supported by Radiology, Anaesthesia, Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The hospital also offers a volunteers’ programme and on-site family accommodation.

The first Roche Children’s Walk took place in 2003, and since then, millions have been raised and distributed to more than 75 communities around the world. This year, the Roche Children’s Walk will be organised by local affiliates and managed by Roche’s Corporate Donations & Philanthropy division for Tuesday, 25 June 2019.

Most of the funds raised through the Roche Children's Walk is donated to the Roche Employee Action and Charity Trust (Re&Act), an independent charity, which partners with organisations worldwide, to support education, nutrition, primary healthcare and social development programmes. Their support has provided school uniforms, school books and school furniture, and more than 5.6 million meals.
