Restaurants In Maboneng

Joburg Admin / August 7, 2020

We couldn't help but jump in the car and head to town. Visiting the inner city is quite exciting, especially when you know you'll be dining there. With that in mind, we thought it'd be a great idea to write about (almost) all the restaurants in Maboneng.

African

Habesha Named after the people of Ethiopia, Habesha offers a doorway into the wonderful world of West African food. From fermented flatbreads (injera) to authentic Ethiopian coffee, Habesha is one of our favourite restaurants in Maboneng. We highly recommend you try the Kbe fir-fir which consists of shredded flatbread and spices mixed into clarified butter. Habesha is one of our favourite restaurants in Maboneng. restaurants in Maboneng Little Addis Cafe A Market on Main favorite, Little Addis can be found in Maboneng at Fox Street Studios. Serving their local favourite platters, as well as traditional Ethiopian specialties, Little Addis is a must-try food experience. Straight out of West Africa, Little Addis also offers you delicious berbere sauce and coffees to in-house made butter, habesha jewellery, fresh and colorful seasonal vegetables, and more. Kalahari Thyme Real South African food can be found at Kalahari Thyme. The restaurant prides itself in its well prepared local dishes cooked to a teaspoon away from perfection, and its great homely service to their customers as though they were home, Kalahari Thyme is simply home away from home. American

Rooftop BBQ Soak up the Joburg skyline from the roof of the Curiocity Pads (formerly 12 Decades Hotel) while enjoying bubbly with the Rooftop BBQ. Embracing al fresco dining above Fox Street in the Maboneng precinct, select from a range of seafood and chicken platters to share from the BBQ stands, jam along to live DJs, and grab a drink at the fully-stocked bar. Enter through the Curiocity Pads entrance on Fox Street, walk to the back of the lobby and take a lift to the seventh floor, and up a flight of stairs to the rooftop BBQ.

Asian

The Blackanese Situated in the inner city hipster hangout of Maboneng Precinct, The Blackanese Sushi and Wine Bar fuses African flavour with Japanese cuisine. Sushi can be enjoyed throughout the week and on Saturdays and Sundays guests can relax whilst they prepare tasty prawns on the braai. The restaurant also offers a catering service and runs regular sushi classes.

Mediterranean

Eat Your Heart Out A kosher deli with a Mediterranean flair, Eat Your Heart Out serves shakshuka, latkes, bagels, and hot pastrami on rye. The rustic restaurant also has vegan or vegetarian-friendly, gluten-free and fat-free options. To boot, their coffee is out of this world and will have any coffee lover coming back for more. Mexican

Mama Mexicana Situated on Fox Street, the rustic looking Mama Mexicana serves up all the Tex-Mex favourites, from nachos and quesadillas to soft- and hard-shell tacos and hearty burritos. The Hot Mama Chilli Bowl is a firm favourite, and the margaritas come with a kick. Lots of options for vegetarians make this a great selection for any crowd.

Italian

Ravioli Ravioli makes all their pasta from scratch just like the Italian mamas do. Mpho Masilo draws inspiration from Italy and the passion behind feeding a family. His love of food is evident in the detail of his menu. He has even incorporated South African meats into the Italian menu, serving steaks and burgers. restaurants in Maboneng Taste Kitchen By Chef Nti The Taste Kitchen by Chef Nti is owned and ran by one of South Africa's renounced celebrity chefs “Chef Nti” and the restaurant is in the heart of Maboneng. The restaurant offers an exclusive African experience through food, music, art, and tourism. The restaurant caters for brunch, dinner, and private functions once or twice a week with a 7-course tasting menu with wine pairing and a complimentary 8th “dish of the day,” which is inspired by the local produce we get in the streets of Maboneng on that specific day. Taste is a true gem when it comes to the restaurants in Maboneng.

What do you think of our guide to restaurants in Maboneng? Pretty nifty, hey? Let us know if we've left out any of your favourites.
