What Is It?
Celebrating someone's 100th birthday is no joke. How many centenarians do you know? Not many we suppose. That's why Reefsteamers are going all out to celebrate Susan the Steam Train's 100th year of service! Susan is a class 12AR locomotive, built by the British and brought to South Africa in 1919 to work on the coal mines in Witbank. Now, one of the oldest running locomotives in the country, Susan still serves the public with pride. As Reefsteamers custodian locomotive Susan transports passengers to Irene, the Magaliesburg and now even the historic town of Heidelberg!

To commemorate Susan's lifetime of service, Reefsteamers invites you on a trip to Heidelberg this November. But, this is no ordinary journey. Before setting off on the 78km trip, there will be a naming ceremony for Susan. Once she has chugged along all the way to Heidelberg, she will be met by distinguished dignitaries. The fun doesn't end there though. Families can look forward to jumping castles, face painting, food stalls, beer garden, and even a cake cutting at the Culinary Express restaurant. Tuck into a three-course meal afterwards, before hopping aboard for the trip back to Jozi. Reefsteamers has been bringing families the nostalgic joy of locomotive travel since 1995. As Johannesburg's only steam train, they are a treasured NPO, wholly dependent on ticket sales and sponsorships. So, please come and support Susan this November.
