A Quick & Inexpensive Blow-Dry At Sorbet Drybar

Joburg Admin / March 26, 2018

I have to admit that Sorbet Drybar is one of my guilty pleasures. I first stumbled across the concept when I was having my nails done and overheard two ladies raving about the blow-dry they regularly receive before functions or special occasions. In fact, one of them has a standing appointment at her local Sorbet Drybar on a Friday so that her hair is “weekend-ready” within 45 minutes. In brief, a “Drybar” offers just that – a blow-dry. They do not cut or colour hair, but various hair treatments are available on request. Appointments are booked on the hour, every hour, meaning that there is absolutely no waiting for your stylist to finish with her current client and a rather delicious hair wash and massage is included in the price. You will also notice that they have a menu of blow-dry options on the salon wall – meaning that you can ask for a particular style, or just explain what you would like done if your requested style isn’t one of the regular options. 50 minutes later, you will walk out with perfectly coiffed hair, ready to face the world! I would imagine that the prices are fairly standard – I pay *R185 per blow-dry – at least R100 less than I normally pay when having my hair cut and coloured at my favourite hair salon. If I’m honest, the blow-dries I receive at Sorbet Drybar are actually better than ones I have received from really good hairdressers over the years. I have asked for everything from beachy waves to straight hair with a bit of movement at the ends – and I have never once been disappointed. Sorbet-1 I have also regularly opted for The Sorbet Squeeze – a 10-minute scalp massage that is added to your hair wash for an additional *R60. I highly recommend this for those of you feeling stressed or frazzled - it honestly works miracles and is worth every cent. Other add-ons include the Sorbet Swirl (scalp treatment and blowout), Sorbet Scoop (customised hair treatment), Keratin Smoothing Treatment (lasts for 3 months and reduces frizz), Olaplex (repairs broken hair), Split-Ender Treatment, and Hair Botox. You’ll find the relevant prices here – be sure to book in advance. Various Drybars also offer threading, facial waxing, eyelash extensions and tinting – so keep an eye out for those services. Plus, most of the Drybars I have been to have nail technicians who can do your nails while you are having your blow-dry. As you may know, I am very loyal to my nail technician in Hyde Park, but do find this service invaluable when I have a broken nail! The bottom line is this: I highly recommend giving your nearest Drybar a test-drive (if you haven’t already). It is an efficient, luxurious and relatively inexpensive way to look your best before a function, dinner, or weekend that is filled with social get-together's. Is it an indulgence? Yes – and one I plan to keep on enjoying when my budget allows! Click here to find your nearest Sorbet Drybar.
