What Is It?
Thabang addresses pertinent issues on violence and the ideology of freedom. It captures moments which have greater significance in the transformation of Katleho, a young black man who interrogates if his thoughts were ever really his.
The piece does not tell an obvious story with a linear narrative. But, its usage of sound, movement and performance tell stories about Katleho's alienation and mental illness and distress as a result of the communities he has lived in.
Thabang deals with themes of sexual and physical abuse, abandonment (fatherless households), mental illness, sexuality, intimacy, among others. Aiming to provoke thought and allow audiences to revisit traumas they would rather choose to forget. In essence, the play makers welcome you, the audience into a form of therapy.
Devised by: Katleho Sekhosana (creator), Simphiwe Ntshingila, Xolisile Bongwana and Princess Tshabangu.
