What Is It?

August House is affectionately known as "the artists playground" by local artists. That's because this exclusive art building in New Doornfontein provides independent artists with a unique platform. Not only can they exhibit their work, but they are able to make a profit too! As a bonus, August House has a 15 year history on the Joburg art scene. This five storey, classic 1940's industrial building houses in private studios the largest community of pan African fine artists under one roof. Historically at August House, ‘Open Studio’ exhibitions have provided a platform for art followers and buyers to meet and get to know artists up close and personally in their private art studio spaces. These events also give art lovers the opportunity to buy art directly from the artists at affordable prices – a great opportunity for locals to collect and invest in local contemporary art. So, come and join August House for their September Open Studio edition. This event promises to be a highlight on the fringe Joburg art scene, part of the greater Joburg art week. August House Open Studios will be hosting over 50 artists selling their art from their private studio's. Come and get up close and personal with artists and their work. Sushi, drinks and coffee will be on sale to keep you refreshed throughout the event.

Participating artists in the September Open Studio include:

Vusi Beauchamp, Lindo Zwane, Sifiso Temba, Andile Bhala, Arlindo Maunde, Petros Mwenga, Jan Maanda Tshikuthula, Sizwe Khoza, Kealeboga Tlalang, Siphiwe Makgoka and Patrick Seruwu.
