The Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation invite Joburg art lovers to the inaugural On Main Road Public Art Exhibition this November. In celebrating its 15th anniversary, this dedicated NGO will host an exhibition themed to speak to its purpose: fostering an inclusive, empowered society. Showcasing the work of emerging and established fine artists, crafters, photographers and designers. The On Main Road Public Art Exhibition makes for a thoughtful interrogation of the “main road” that divides us, that connects us, and that defines the aspiration and terms of an inclusive society. Through this exhibition, art contributes uniquely to the national discussion on inequality, inclusion/exclusion, cohesion/fragmentation, borders and boundaries. Among the works on display are two photographic works by 14-year old Unathi Nkuna and Molly Lebea from Sitjwetla informal settlement near Alexandra township.
"Their works challenge one-dimensional representations of informal settlement communities," CEO of the Foundation, Mmabatho Maboya, said. "This exhibition relates to our purpose, which is to foster an inclusive society, and we aim for it to contribute to the national conversation on this important matter," she further shared.
