Misty Hills Is Amazing

Joburg Admin / September 13, 2018

There's an oasis hidden past the Wedding Mile in Muldersdrift and just before you reach the on-ramp to the R24 towards Krugersdorp. Misty Hills is an authentic African experience intertwined with a rich history and an ample amount of things to see, do and taste. Come with us as we take a complete tour of this brilliant and beautiful compound.

The Carnivore

Shakespeare's question, "what's in a name?" hits the nail on the head when it comes to Carnivore in Muldersdrift. Let's just say it's not the kind of place you go to for a salad – although they do have some great vegetarian food on the menu. The Carnivore is an African-themed restaurant which works pretty much like a buffet, except that everything is brought to you on huge skewers. Yup, there's tonnes of braai'd meat going around. These include chicken drumsticks, pork ribs, gammon, beef, lamb, kudu, zebra and crocodile... not even kidding about the last two. Every choice of meat is served with a specific sauce which is placed – along with a salad – on a lazy susan in the middle of the table. It being South Africa, the meals come with pap and chakalaka, of course. It's the kind of place you go to when you want to celebrate family occasions and eat some braaivleis. Starters are served before the feast begins and consists of soup of the day and homemade honey bread. There is an a la carte menu for those who don't want to partake in the buffet. The beverage menu is brilliant and propped full of beautiful wines, bubbly and spirits.

The Gin Box

No matter what the weather's doing outside, the mood's always right for good pub food... especially if it's in an exciting and enticing environment. The Gin Box Pub & Coffee shop offers a relaxed escape from the city as you snack your way through a menu that can spoil royalty. Above and beyond the usual pub-grub suspects, patrons will find healthy salads juxtaposed with delicious cakes and pastries... and an extensive gin list, of course.

The Spa In The Country

You must spoil yourself with a spa day when visiting Misty Hills. This little piece of heaven uses indigenous African herbs, flowers and spices in all their treatments, such as the anti-stress massage, aromatherapy and reflexology, to advanced biological skin care and water treatments. Their fully qualified and experienced therapists have been trained to combine ancient African beauty and health therapies with conventional treatments, resulting in a unique approach to body and skin care. The Stay

The rooms resonate the overall African theme of Misty Hills. My room had a high thatched roof with both a fan and air conditioner. Note that you need to request at reception to have the mini-fridge filled. I must praise Misty Hills on fitting their rooms with a decent shower sporting a decent amount of water pressure. The queen-sized bed is great for rolling around in and will ensure a great night's sleep. The blankets are warm, cuddly and comfortable. Room service is a phone call away and the internet speed is great – my test read a steady 13mb/s, assuming it's an LTE connection. On top of that, the rooms are spacious and come with complimentary slippers, single serving soaps, lotions, conditioners and shampoos. https://www.instagram.com/p/BnZJejsFiS6/?taken-by=mistyhillshotel

The Conference Centres

Whether it be team building, big deals to be made, or a white wedding, Misty Hills is more than capable of hosting whatever your heart desires. They offer 23 conference and events venues, the largest being the Pelindaba hall, which can accommodate up to 800 delegates in a cinema-style setting.
