2018 marks what would have been Nelson Mandela’s 100th Birthday. This is the perfect opportunity for South Africans to reflect on Madiba's incredible legacy. And to celebrate this phenomenal individual and everything his has done and stood for, Nelson Mandela Square encourages you to #BeTheLegacy, inspire change and make every day a Mandela Day.

Visit Nelson Mandela Square from 18 – 28 July 2018 for an array of installations that will inspire you. Keep an eye out for the following over the next ten days:
18 July @ 12:00 - 14:00: Carnival and Buskaid
The Carnival Company brought an exciting and vibrant carnival energy to the Square with giant puppets, dancers and stilt walkers in spirit of Nelson Mandela Day.
19 July @ 12:00 - 14:00: Bench and Buskaid
Renowned artist, Erhardt Thiel, has designed the first mobile iMadiba Installation. A bench the size of Madiba’s Robin Island cell was installed on the Square to drive discussion between people who sit in the installation. Guest speakers include Brian Unsted (Asset Manager – NMS) and Erhardt Thiel (artist).
20 July @ 17:00: Special Olympics
Nelson Mandela Square granted Special Olympics South Africa permission to celebrate their 50th birthday at the Square by lighting up the statue in red.
21 July @ 12:00 - 13:00: Carnival
The centenary celebrations continue! Don’t miss as The Carnival Company and Buskaid performed at The Square on 21 July. #BeTheLegacy #Mandela100 #NelsonMandelaSquare
24 - 28 July: Creation and unveiling of the Largest Madiba Cake
To celebrate Mandela’s centenary, Cupcakes of HOPE will be creating the World’s BIGGEST Mandela Cake. This 3-metre tall Mandela Statue Cake will be revealed on Saturday, 28 July 2018 at Sandton City's Centre Court with Hot 91.9 FM.
