The Lockdown Workout Challenge

Joburg Admin / April 17, 2020

It's The First Step To Something Great

The lockdown workout challenge doesn't necessarily have to be limited to the period of the lockdown. Instead of thinking about this time in terms of being a restriction, allow it to be a stepping stone. After all, taking the first step is always the most difficult part of your fitness journey. While it is always good to have a clear idea of your body goal in mind, remember to be realistic. Moreover, always remember that maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is just as essential as a strenuous exercise regimen!

Your Health Will Benefit

The most important reason that you should start with the lockdown workout challenge is for health reasons. Exercising regularly is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your health, as regular exercise builds strength, endurance and improves immunity. This in turn will help with the prevention of illness. [caption id="attachment_110242" align="aligncenter" width="660"]masculine lady Photo By Scott Webb[/caption]

You Body Will Love You

If you are just beginning your fitness journey, then exercise will definitely be challenging throughout the first few days. But if you persevere through it, you'll reach your fitness goals in no time. When you are working on specific parts of your body, always ensure that you're exercising correctly. Adopting the correct form while exercising is fundamental, as this will not only make your workout more effective, but it will also prevent injuries.

Motivation To Carry On

The lockdown workout challenge is a great way to build motivation for living a healthier lifestyle. Once you start exercising regularly, you'll be motivated to eat better too. [caption id="attachment_110241" align="aligncenter" width="659"]woman doing yoga Photo By Zen Bear Yoga[/caption]

You Will Feel More Confident

Reaching a physical body goal will boost your confidence and give you the encouragement you need to keep working hard towards your health and fitness goals. If at first you don't see the results you want, don't despair! Consistency is key when beginning a new exercise regimen. Your body will need time to adjust to your new routine, and so will your brain. We're living in trying times, so treat your body kindly and it will do the same in turn! A few things to keep in mind:
  • Be realistic
  • Persevere
  • Don't be hard on yourself
  • Eat well
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Switch it up - don't do the same exercises everyday
  • Be positive

Catch An Online Class

If working out alone isn't quite your jam, joining an online class could be just the workout you've been searching for! Throughout the course of the lockdown, dozens of online workout sessions, live streams and pre-recorded fitness videos have been made available to the public. Some gyms have even made classes available via their apps, so if you're a member of a gym, take note of any announcements that may have been sent out. Some of our favourite routines that we've come across so far include:
  • Planet Fitness Live Streaming Group Exercise Classes
  • MTN GiGYMa Digital Workout Series
  • Online channels such as Blogilates
We've also rounded up some of our favourite at-home workout routines and tips which you can read about here.  Check out more exciting lockdown challenges here.
