Lockdown Lowdown With Thembisa Mdoda Nxumalo

Joburg Admin / April 29, 2020

What is the first thing you'll get up to once lockdown is over? The first thing I will do as soon as lockdown is over is get back to work. I realised, during this time, that I love what I do, all of aspects of it - in front and behind the camera. Which restaurant do you miss the most? One of the things my husband and I love to do is find pieces of culinary heaven in Johannesburg. So there are many little spots I miss. At the top of the list is Saints in Sandton, Contadino in Parktown, and of course our favourite vegan spot, Sprout Cafè. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8EkVVaF3Ci/ What's your favourite home-cooked meal you've made during lockdown? Lamb stew with samp and beans, umgqusho in Xhosa. We marinate the lamb overnight in rosemary, ginger, garlic and other herbs. It’s great for the chilly weather we’ve been having, and the kids love it. What are you watching on Netflix? Money Heist, Kim’s Convenience and Baby Mamas (because I’m in it so I’m biased). https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zB28nFkZC/ Have you picked up a hobby or perfected a skill? I’ve decided to take this time to rest and spend time with my family. What are the three staples in your kitchen right now? Fruit, vegetables and flour. We do a lot of baking in this house, the kids love it. https://www.instagram.com/p/B81xA_uF68h/ Coffee or tea? Tea. Tea. Tea. All kinds of tea. Any time of the day. I’m obsessed with green tea. Who are you in lockdown with? My family. https://www.instagram.com/p/B49IwtwlOJG/ What are you currently most grateful for? God. I’m also grateful for mine and my family’s health. I’m grateful for a place to call home and I thank God, everyday, for an incredible life partner. He’s amazing. How do you keep yourself going and motivated during this time? I meditate twice a day, when I wake up and just before my last prayer of the day. I pray a lot and I’ve started a journal to keep track of my thoughts and everyday I make it a point to keep my thoughts positive, loving and pure. It’s not easy, but the more I do it the better I become. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_GX8Hglz6s/
