Blessing Ngobeni: Study Song Of Chicotte Date: Saturday, 18 January 2020 - Saturday, 15 February 2020 Everard Read's CIRCA Gallery invite you to Blessing Ngobeni's latest exhibition of print work, titled Study Song Of Chicotte. This new series of hand-coloured linocuts is based on Ngobeni’s 2016 exhibition at the CIRCA Gallery, which dealt with issues of colonial slavery and human relationships. The artist now presents these artworks reproduced, offering a graphic reinterpretation of his large, bold and complex collages on canvas, rendering the familiar images in softer tones of blues, purples and greys. Blessing Ngobeni is the recipient of the 2020 Standard Bank Young Artist Award for the Visual Arts. Click here for more information.TMRW Gallery

The Goodman Gallery
The Goodman Gallery opens their 2020 season with two must-see art exhibitions. Thabiso Sekgala: Bôna Date: Saturday, 25 January 2020 - Saturday, 14 March 2020 Bôna is a selection of work from several photo essays by the late Thabiso Sekgala, which explore how social borders determine visibility in society. This must-visit exhibition is the first solo show of Sekgala’s work at Goodman Gallery since his passing in 2014. The exhibition's title is a Sesotho word with a double meaning. As a verb, Bôna means to "see". However, when used as a pronoun, the word translates to "them". Sekgala’s photographs evoke this title through the responses they elicit from the subjects in the work and, in turn, the viewers. The exhibition features work from Sekgala's Homelands, Second Transition and Running series. Click here for more information. Brett Charles Seiler: Closet Date: Saturday, 25 January 2020 - Saturday, 29 February 2020Closet is Brett Charles Seiler's first exhibition with Goodman Gallery. Exhibited in the form of painting and installation, Closet expresses Seiler's ongoing interest in themes of longing, distance and nostalgia.
The artist describes his work as a straight-forward "coming of age narrative", taking place during the gay rights movement. Born in 1994, Seiler did not personally experience this period of history. Instead, he accesses it through references to historic gay modes of communication and conduct, incorporating figurative forms as well as text and language, to tell these stories through poetic snapshots of a time before gay liberation in society. By accessing this history, Seiler attempts to celebrate and recognise the struggles of the past.
