Sci-Bono Discovery Centre Is Still A Firm Family Favourite!

Joburg Admin / September 19, 2023

When the holidays hit and the kids are home, that poses a challenging time for families looking for something to do. The Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown is ALWAYS a win – it’s exciting, interesting AND keeps kids of all ages busy for hours. Even parents will find things that are fascinating.

Edutainment At Its Best

The Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown is one of those places that slips off our radar screen, only to return with a vengeance when we remember how much we love it! We have spent many MANY hours there over the past few years, and it never ceases to amaze us.

For those that haven’t yet discovered the wonders of this world-class centre – it is a giant “classroom” in which kids learn maths, science and technology through play and experimentation. There are over THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY exhibits (yes, 350) while also offering a variety of educational activities and events.

Sci-Bono Discovery Centre

We first discovered the centre at a birthday party – one of the most fun parties we have been to. The party included a guided tour and explosive science show that had the kids absolutely riveted.

We then made another plan to go back and have more time playing with the various exhibits and experiments. It’s amazing to see the kids having so much fun that they don’t even realise that they are learning! And to be fair, the adults had just as much fun!

The centre also offers holiday programmes, weekend activities and workshops, school tours and focus weeks. But really, we highly suggest popping in for a few hours and exploring at leisure. Once there, you can plan your return visit. Trust me, you’ll want to go back... and soon!
