The 7 Phases of Joburg Storytelling Dinner
This winter, JoburgPlaces will be hosting their fantastic 7 Phases of Joburg Storytelling Dinner. This is an unmissable event for history boffins and foodies alike. The storytelling dinner works as follows:
- Guests arrive at Charlie and Gerald's Town Treasure and enjoy a round of drinks at the bar.
- Starters are served. Guests are seated in separate private dining rooms for the meal courses, while the storytelling takes place in a room that seats all the guests together.
- The opening story for the night is told by master story weaver Charlie Moyo. The story explains the first three phases of Joburg history.
- Main courses are served.
- The second story for the evening is told.
- Desserts are served.
- The final story for the evening is presented. This story covers the history of Charlie and Gerald's Town Treasure itself. Guests will learn more about the venue's history with its 1000 safety deposit boxes!

Feast menus
Guests are able to choose from two menus for the evening's events. The Lite Feast Menus costs R475 per person and includes the storytelling package. These menus cover a variety of cuisines and dietary options. Take your pick from the seafood feast, Mediterranean inspired feast, vegan feast, or travelers delight which includes a taste of east Asia and the Greek islands. If your budget allows however, we highly recommend the Country Carne Abundant Feast. The abundant feast meals cost R725 per person and also include the storytelling portion of the evening. Here's a little taste of what to expect from your feast meal:
- Starter: Chopped feta and olives in spinach leaves on a bed of tzatziki
- Mains: Beef fillet strips with grilled peppers; Apricot-infused lamb stew and French-inspired, pomegranate duck stew served with African Dombolo (steamed bread)
- Sides: Grilled butternut, sweet potato, peppers, onion, zucchini, and olives; Turmeric-stained yellow rice
- Desserts: Rose- and fig-infused chocolate truffles and nut-free baklava
The food is served in bowls in the centre of the table to allow guests to dish up their preferred combinations. Each bowl serves two guests and promotes a culture of sharing and talking. We can't think of a better way to celebrate our city's history than over an epic feast like this. Book yourself a ticket to JoburgPlaces upcoming Storytelling Dinners as soon as possible.
