POSTPONED: Johnny Clegg Tribute Concert

Joburg Admin / March 10, 2020

What Is It?

The South African music industry and a legion of fans lost an icon in mid-2019. Now, a stellar lineup of artists will pay homage to the late Johnny Clegg at the Emmarentia Botanical Gardens in Johannesburg. The biggest line-up of performers since ‘Concert in the Park’, the Johnny Clegg Tribute Concert looks to be the music event of the season. The lineup for the event features some of South Africa's most notable performers, including:
  • Soweto Gospel Choir
  • Just Jinjer
  • Sipho Hotstix Mabuse
  • Karen Zoid
  • Zolani Mahola
  • Prime Circle
  • Yvonne Chaka Chaka
  • Francois van Coke
  • Majozi
  • Kurt Darren
  • Young Mbazo
  • The Parlotones
  • Arno Carstens
  • Jesse Clegg
  • Matthew Mole
  • Cito
Paying homage to a unique partnership that started back in the early 1970s, Johnny's long-time friend, Sipho Mchunu (from Juluka-fame) will also be making a special appearance; as well as Ella Mental and éVoid (who are specially flying in from London) - both of which performed alongside Johnny at the Ellis Park Stadium iconic Concert in the Park in 1985. There will also be a dance tribute performed by dancers from Zululand and the local hostels. A portion of the proceeds raised from the concert will go towards the Click Foundation, supporting ‘The Friends of Johnny Clegg’ charity which was established with Johnny in December 2018. The Click Foundation deploys online English literacy programmes in under-privileged primary schools across South Africa. Book your tickets now before they sell out!
