What Is Movember?
There's more to this initiative than men simply growing moustaches for the month of November, it's also about raising awareness about the health and mental issues affecting men. Movember campaigns around the world raise awareness and funds for brothers, dads, fathers and all the other men in our lives. Together we can make a difference, so join in by growing your mo this November.
Movember South Africa
The Men's Foundation of South Africa drives the local Movember initiative in support of men's health. The charity tackles issues of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. They have made it known that men's health is in crisis: men experience worse longer-term health than women and die, on average, six years earlier, prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years, while testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50 years. PinkDrive: More Balls Than Most
PinkDrive is not only supporting women living with cancer but also prioritising the health of men through
More Balls Than Most (MBTM), the brother charity of PinkDrive. MBTM's focus is on prostate and testicular cancer education and awareness. They also host events for cancer awareness.
Prostate cancer is characterised by the difficulty to urinate, the need to urinate often, blood in urine and pain in the lower back, hips or upper thighs. The MBTM does a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, which tells you on the spot if you are at risk for this type of cancer or if you need to consult a doctor.
Testicular cancer is characterised by a painful swelling or lump in one or both testicles, pain or feeling of heaviness in the testicles and an ache in the lower abdomen, back or groin. Self-examination is key to early detection of cancer. Click
