Joburg Ballet presents their first major season of 2022 at Joburg Theatre this March. Bringing you their new showcase titled 'Evolve', Joburg Ballet is prepped to wow audiences. 'Evolve' was meant to take stage in 2021, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The production is now ready to dazzle on the iconic Nelson Mandela stage at Joburg Theatre. We have sorely missed live entertainment over the course of the pandemic and simply cannot wait to see this new production. The third set is an evocative dance piece by choreographer Tumelo Lekana. Titled 'Legae', this showcase is a deeply metaphorical exploration of trauma and healing. Contemporary Programme
Joburg Ballet's 'Evolve' is made up of three new works and a showpiece of classical repertoire. We are especially excited to see their choreographer's talents at play in this production. The first piece is titled 'The Afterlife', choreographed by Joburg Ballet's principal dancer Shannon Glover. In this introspective piece, Glover explores the concept of death as the great equaliser. The macabre is certainly not an unfamiliar theme in ballet. We are intrigued to see how Glover worked through this theme in her piece. The second showcase of this production is titled 'The Game'. Choreographed by Mario Gaglione, the piece imagines the parallels between the game of chess and the game of life. We anticipate that this portion of the programme will be highly technical and perhaps even slightly whimsical. Keep an eye out for our upcoming review of the show to find out if we are right!

Classical Programme
Joburg Ballet is lauded for their classical repertoire. They will be performing the Grand Pas from Paquita as part of the grand finale of the 'Evolve' showcase. Choreographed in the 19th century by Marius Petipa, this collection of dances is bound to delight audiences and highlight the very best of Joburg Ballet's talents.
