54 on Bath
The Tsogo Sun
54 on Bath Hotel is located within the leafy suburb of Rosebank. A short distance from the popular
Rosebank Mall and The Zone @ Rosebank, this urban hotel offers luxury at its very best. The hotel restaurant, Level Four, is a favourite among guests and visitors. Their menu is exquisite, curated by
Executive Chef Matthew Foxon. Nearly every dish on the menu features his bold signature style and distinctive flair, ensuring a memorable culinary experience for all diners.
One of the standout features at
Level Four Restaurant is their afternoon tea. Served daily from
14:30 to 17:00, Level Four's afternoon tea resembles the traditional English high tea experience. Believed to have been invented by
Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford in the 19th Century, afternoon tea is a time honoured tradition worth embracing. The Duchess often found herself peckish in the late afternoon. In those days, lunch was served early in the day, while dinner was only presented late at night. To combat her 'sinking feeling', the Duchess began to take tea with snacks in her bedroom in the afternoon. Soon, she began to invite friends over and the tradition was born!
Afternoon tea delights at Level Four Restaurant
Level Four Restaurant offers three high tea alternatives to choose from:
Traditional afternoon tea, Royal afternoon tea and Champagne tea. We opted for the Traditional Tea, which includes English tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones, fresh cream and preserves, assorted afternoon pastries and premium tea leaves of your choice.
Picking just one tea to sample was endlessly difficult. Not because there isn't ample choice, but because they all sounded so good! Eventually we went with the
Jade of Africa - 54 on Bath's house blend, a delicate and fragrant red tea with strawberries and sunflowers.
Needless to say, our tea paired perfectly with the array of savoury and sweet delights brought to the table, cute quiches, scrumptious sarmies and sensational scones. What more could you need? The top tier of our high tea plate overflowed with pastries, cakes and even a
red velvet doughnut with lemon cheesecake filling. However, it was Level Four's fluffy, light scones that truly made the experience. Accompanied by
seasonal jam, cream and mild cheese, these scones were the perfect little appetisers.

Depending on the weather, Level Four either serves afternoon tea in their
tranquil gardens or inside the restaurant. During winter you can take a seat alongside the
warming fireplace. Make sure to book your table beforehand. You can call the restaurant on
