I Love Soweto Festival

Joburg Admin / August 29, 2019

What Is It?

I LOVE SOWETO Week sees different venues around Soweto come together in celebration around one common theme - the Love of Soweto! Hosted by the iconic Soweto Theatre, this four-day festival is themed around local entertainment. Taking place within a family friendly performance space, this event is a must for the whole family. The festival opens with the monthly Poetry Open Mic Night at Soweto Theatre. The second night of the festival is all about family fun. Join the theatre for an outdoor movie screening, wine and cheese. It's the perfect way to keep the kids entertained while you kick back a little. The I LOVE SOWETO Night Market, curated by the Soweto Art and Craft Fair, comes alive on the third night of the festival. The night closes off with a performance by a special live band, hosted by the eccentric Bongani Drama. The Soweto String Quartet will also perform a few Christmas carols to really bring in that festive spirit. The final day of the festival sees in the vibrant food market, brought to you by Seven Colour Sundays. Throughout the festival the food market will be cooking up a storm. So come and take a weekend away from the stove. This space is also the perfect place to purchase a 100% South African made Christmas present! There will be tons of entertainment too, including performances by Urban Village, BCUC, Sun Xa Experiment, Msaki ft Neo Muyanga. The kiddies can enjoy an outdoor movie screening while you tuck into delicious food and drinks. I Love Soweto From night markets, to outdoor movie screenings, to live poetry, comedy and music I LOVE SOWETO weekend is something wholesome for the whole family. Don't miss it!
