Hitting The Sweet Spot With That Spot On 4th

Joburg Admin / October 21, 2019

A Culinary Journey

That Spot On 4th is the brainchild and culinary baby of Chef Zané. After finishing high school, she was at a loss for what to do with her life. With no interests other than food, Zané left her childhood home in Pretoria for the Institute of Culinary Arts in Stellenbosch. After three grueling years, she graduated in a class of five. Specialising in product development, she went on to work for Woolworths' largest supplier in Cape Town. Two years later, with only a dream and the support of her parents, Zané set out to open her own restaurant. That Spot On 4th is Parktown North's latest foodie hot spot. With awesome breakfasts, hangover waffles and an extensive wine list, there is something here for any taste palate. Wholesome Morsels

That Spot On 4th takes quite a unique stance on breakfast classics. Their standouts include a Breakfast Flatbread, Cauli Rice, Bacon & Banana Waffle and a Boerewors and Egg Foldover. Generous and moreish, these breakfasts will have your mouth watering in anticipation. That Spot On 4th specialise in Sunday brunch, so be sure to pop by before 11:30 on a quiet Sunday morning. The restaurant is spacious and well lit, with modern fixtures and wood accents. Coupled with the Parktown vibe, this little cafe offers relaxation tinged with an air of excitement about life and food. The lunch menu pulls from a variety of cuisine influences, including Mediterranean, Asian and French. Reflecting the diversity of our time, That Spot On 4th also caters to Banters, vegetarians and those with gluten intolerance. While we could wax lyrical about all their great menu options, we think it's best that we skip right to That Spot's specialty menu. Featuring the infamous Hangover Waffle topped with Spanish chorizo, caramelised onion, mozzarella cheese, rosa tomatoes and a fried egg. If this doesn't cure your babbelas, then we don't know what will! Other tasty additions to the specialty menu include Rice Paper Rolls with homemade sweet chili dipping sauce. Order yours stuffed with chicken, salmon or veggies. Next up is the Satay Rice Bowl - combining the traditional flavours of nutty Satay with carrots, spring onion, sesame seed sprinkle and sticky jasmine rice. Even if you aren't a vegetarian, we recommend ordering your bowl with roasted cauliflower instead of chicken. The roasted flavour pairs perfectly with the undertones of coconut in the Satay sauce, plus it's good for you.

The Sweet Life

We all need a little sweetness in our lives, so why not indulge at That Spot On 4th? Their sweet waffle selection is to die for, with flavours of lemon meringue, maple, choc chip and caramel apple. While we haven't tried their Gingerbread Waffle, it sounds too good to deny. Served with vanilla ice cream, we are sure that this dessert is well worth a try. You'll be seeing us soon, That Spot On 4th! That Spot On 4th is similarly famed for their cakes. Whether you order just a slice or a whole cake to take home, there is little chance of disappointment. Their carrot cake is an ultimate crowd pleaser - dense and moist with just the right ratio of walnuts to spice and cream cheese icing. The bakery also offers all your family favourites too, like baked cheesecake, red velvet, coconut, mocha and gluten-free chocolate torte. Get your next birthday party cake sorted here for only *R380. Lastly, we must mention That Spot On 4th's Maple Bacon cupcake. A whimsical combination of salty and sweet, this unorthodox little cake is a must-try for those daring enough.
