Healthy & Exciting Toast Toppers

Joburg Admin / March 17, 2016

Who doesn’t love a good piece of toast in the morning? Not only is it simple to prepare, it’s also filling and versatile. Sure, the standard bread and butter is easy and delicious, but there are other ways to sprinkle your toast with a little bit of excitement, all while adding some extra healthy nutrients! Banana, Blueberries & Almond Butter Spreading your toast with almond butter provides you with a balanced meal of fibre, protein and healthy fats. Adding banana and blueberries doesn’t only give you a little boost of sweetness, it provides you with an abundance of antioxidants. Together, these ingredients will strengthen your immune system and stabilise your mood. Hardboiled Egg, Smashed Peas & Ricotta This one’s a great choice for breakfast, lunch or even dinner Toast with both vegetables and egg creates a balanced meal as well as a chance to get in those much-needed veggies. Hardboiled eggs are very simple to prepare, and are a great low-fat source of protein, lutein, choline and B vitamins. Peas are high in essential vitamins and minerals, including antioxidants, protein and fibre. Avocado, Mint & Feta Who could forget the simple but ever-so-delicious avocado toast? Avocado toast can be paired with many toppings, one of our favourite being chopped mint and crumbled feta. Avocados pack lots of nutrients and flavour, and are fantastic sources of heart-healthy fats that help your body absorb vitamins, control weight and lower bad cholesterol. Portabella Mushrooms, Radish Greens & Goat Cheese Sure, a bagel and cream cheese tastes delicious, but why not spice up your morning by going a little gourmet? Goat cheese is a good choice for those who are sensitive to dairy, as studies have found that it’s easier to digest than cheese made from regular cow’s milk. Topping your toast with mushrooms and greens adds extra nutrients, including B vitamins, vitamin D and calcium. Tomato, Feta & Honey Tomatoes are a brilliant source of lycopene, a carotenoid that helps fight off stroke and cancer. Mix in the drizzle of honey, and you’ll fight off bacteria, help clear your allergies, and combat cold and flu. Your mornings are sure to be more exciting from now on with these tasty ideas!
