What Is It?
The Symphony Choir of Johannesburg and the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra will perform the annual Good Friday Handel's Messiah reportoire at the Linder Auditorium on Friday, 19 April 2019. As always, maestro Richard Cock will conduct the symphony choir and orchestra in a grand musical spectacular.
Handel's Messiah is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens. The piece is one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. The text is an extended reflection on Jesus as the Messiah called Christ. It follows the Christ myth from prophet Isaiah's writing's, through to the shepherds annunciation, the Passion story and Christ's Resurrection and final Ascension.
