Halloween Crafts For Your Favourite Critters

Joburg Admin / October 2, 2025

Halloween is the perfect reason to get those creative juices flowing! Not only do arts and crafts encourage children to use their imagination, but the process also teaches important soft skills like patience, attention to detail, and teamwork. We've collated some spooky crafts to add extra fun to the Halloween season!

Spider Garlands

What's a witch's den without den without a little gang of spiders? This adorable spider garland is both cheap and easy to make! All you'll need is a packet of pipe cleaners, some string, and googly eyes if you're feeling extra. Check out the instructions from A Beautiful Mess.

Critter Lanterns

These give us a delightful case of the heebie-jeebies. We all have that stash of empty jars in the cupboard that we keep saying we'll use someday, so why not turn them into something fun? Fill your jars with plastic creepy crawlies and a battery-operated light for an art piece that might even help you through unexpected load sh--you know what, we won't say it. But, you know.

Monster Pots

Turn plain flower pots into spooky or playful Halloween characters, then fill them with sweets or cute succulents. Start with a base coat in your chosen colour, then add the finer details with paint pens to turn up the 'boo' factor. Read through the tutorial here.

Ice Cream Stick Characters

We love this craft from The Best Ideas For Kids. It's simple, colourful, and also gives you a chance to teach a lesson on recycling if you choose to forage for your ice cream sticks naturally instead of buying a pack. The tutorial covers a witch and her cat, but you can make any spooky friend you'd like!

Eyeball Slime

Slime is a big hit among our younger population, so this project is sure to go down well. Follow the tutorial by Good Housekeeping to whip up a batch of spooky slime in the kids' favourite colours. Have fun adding in googly eyes, plastic spiders, and anything else that gives you the creeps.

Rock Monsters

We love this craft by Crafty Morning for how minimalist and versatile it is. Send the kids out to the garden to find some stones, and spend the afternoon together giving them a colourful makeover. You're sure to share a few giggles as you come up with silly facial expressions for their new pet monsters!

If crafts aren't your thing and you'd rather grab some ready-made Halloween decorations, here's a list of our favourite spots to shop. Go haunt your house!
