Greenside Faves: Food Edition

Joburg Admin / October 13, 2025

Greenside has long been a go-to spot in Johannesburg for anyone who loves good food. With its mix of restaurants, bars, and cafés, there are a ton of diverse options to satisfy every craving. This is a neighbourhood worth exploring one meal at a time, and we've decided to start you off!

World's End Cafe & Bar

It's new, it's vibey, it's fabulous in every way. World's End is a premium brunch and cocktail bar in Greenside that we can't get enough of. The food is both highly Instagrammable and delicious, the cocktails are expertly prepared, and the ambience is everything you're looking for when picking a spot to catch up with friends.

Kimono Sushi & Thai

Kimono is proof that you don't need to be loud and flashy to do unbelievable things. Beyond fantastic sushi and Thai food, this is one of the only restaurants where you can (literally!) get your hands on a proper seafood boil. Make sure you arrive with an empty tummy!

Altar Bar

You'll never have to choose between aesthetics and quality at Altar. This trendy tapas bar is an ideal location to gather your crew for some drinks and nibbles, and you're assured a background playlist that hits all the right spots. 3-litre mimosa tower, anyone?

Peony Waffle

Peony Waffle is one of the newer kids on the Greenside block, and it might be our new favourite spot for dessert. Think Biscoff tiramisu cups, double chocolate Belgian waffles, and pancakes drizzled with pistachio cream. We don't need to keep talking, do we?

The Green Room

If you're making your way through Greenside with the kids in tow, The Green Room is our first choice for lunch. You'll find scrumptious renditions of cafe classics here, alongside cocktails to sip on while your little ones run wild in the playground.

Galata Bakery

Galata is part of the same group behind Peony, and specialises in traditional, Turkish eats that are a flavour explosion words can't quite describe. You'll find more continental dishes here, too, but the real hero has got to be the dessert menu. Fresh baklava and hand-churned ice cream are just the tip of the iceberg.

If there's one tip we can give you before exploring Greenside, it's that you should always arrive hungry. You're in for a multi-course experience here, from breakfast through to after-dinner drinks.

If the buzz of Joburg nightlife is calling to you now that you're fuelled up, check out our favourite Greenside spots for a sunset groove.
