Have you heard? Gilroy's Brewery has found a new home... in Rivonia! After 14 years in Muldersdrift, it's time for a new adventure! And if you're wondering what will be happening with this award-winning craft brewery and restaurant as they move and settle into their new home, we have the info!
A Little Bit About Gilroy's Brewery
Founded in 2000, Gilroy’s Brewery in was one of the first micro-breweries in the country. The brewery was established by Master Brewer, Steve Gilroy, in his printing factory in Roodepoort. In 2008, the brewery relocated to sunny Muldersdrift where the pub, restaurant, and general store opened and soon became one of Joburg’s premier destinations.
Over the years, the pub and restaurant became a huge success, and has been awarded numerous awards for Best Tourism Experience, Best Restaurant Al Fresco, and Best Overall Venue. Gilroy’s also won the British Telegraph Best of British award.
Legendary Beer & Delicious Grub!
What Gilroy's is know for, is the beer! Gilroy Beer is 100% natural, without preservatives, and brewed to Irish Purity Laws. The beer contains natural/low carbonation. You can find the brewery in the back, where all Gilroy beer is brewed and packaged on site – ensuring the highest possible quality, always.

- The Gilroy Serious Dark Ale
- The Gilroy Premium Lager
- The Gilroy Traditional Ruby Ale
And as for the grub, there's plenty of tasty dishes to enjoy. Their a la carte menu has something for all tastes and palates. Feeling hungry? Tuck into the Gilroy's Beef Burger or Eisbein. Or even try their famous Fish 'n Chips. Their pizzas and baskets are also tasty! And no meal is complete without dessert – take your pick from Malva Pudding, Apple Pie or Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce.
So, What Happens Now?
Over the next few months, things will be a little bit different. But for now, you do still have time to visit them in Muldersdrift before they close for the holiday season.
Their timeline for their move to the city has been proposed as follows:
- 19 to 28 December 2022: Gilroy's Brewery will be closed for the Christmas period.
- January 2023: They will be operating on Saturdays and Sundays only. During this time, they will start the moving process and some menu items might not be available.
- February 2023: Gilroy's Brewery will close their doors in Muldersdrift.
- March 2023: Gilroy's Brewery will open in Rivonia.
