What Is It?
Join celebrities and fellow fitness-loving do-gooders getting in the saddle and stationary-cycling for charity at the annual Sasfin Cyclethon later this September. There will be
160 stationary gym bikes available per session, with professional instructors leading cyclists through each round. The sessions will run for 50 minutes with a 10-minute break in between for the changeover of bikes, and everyone is welcome to participate in as many sessions as they want. Not only is it a great way to get your heart pumping, it's also a great way to contribute to a great cause.
Loads of celebrities will be there to join in on the fun or encourage supporters peddling their hearts out, and there will also be
live entertainment and fabulous spot prizes. It’s a fun day out for families, the community, corporates and schools while raising funds for HospiceWits and the Smile Foundation.
The Smile Foundation is a South African NGO that assists children with anomalies that require facial reconstructive surgery. Based in 11 academic hospitals in South Africa, the Smile Foundation invests in the teams they work with through a skills development programme, and they assist the hospitals by purchasing equipment for use by the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
HospiceWits provides high-quality Palliative care, comfort and support for patients and families affected by life-threatening illnesses. Home-based care is the core work of the 39-year-old Non-Profit Organisation that operates in both Johannesburg and Soweto. They also maintain an in-patient unit in Houghton, where patients can be admitted for pain and symptom control, as well as respite care. Not only does HospiceWits provide care to meet the physical needs of their patients, they also ensure that their emotional, spiritual and psycho-social needs are met. This year, join Sister Judith Young, who has been working as a Home Care Nursing Sister at HospiceWits for 28 years, to raise funds for this amazing cause! For the past five years, she has cycled the Sasfin Cyclethon – for the full six-hour duration! So, cycle with her or give this amazing woman your support by sponsoring her.
