A Dazzling Festive Season at Gateway
Gateway is turning on the dazzle this festive season with a bouquet of unique experiences that will bring families and friends together to make special holiday memories and shopping a pleasure.
By mid-November, much of the super-regional mall in the heart of uMhlanga will be transformed into a
holiday light experience that you most certainly do not want to miss!
“
With spectacular attractions stretching the length of the mall, visitors can join the holiday light experience at any point and follow the fun from station to station,” says Gateway Theatre of Shopping Marketing Manager, Michelle Shelley.
Starting with a
giant gift box outside @home, the installations are built on a grand scale and have a playful edge. “
Our intention was to create beautiful festive scenes to be used as backdrops to capture memorable moments,” says Shelley.
You can rock around the
Christmas Tree outside Ted Baker, on a beautiful rocking horse, or snuggle up close with your loved ones on the
colour-changing love seat outside Steve Madden.
The Palm Court is always a buzz over the festive season. “
It’s ideal for relaxing over a meal and enjoying summer outdoors,” says Shelley. “
In addition to the Lighthouse & Ocean Play area, we will be hosting live music in the evenings from 16 December and there’s also a special feature of our holiday light experience set up outside.” The suspended swing is picture perfect with its bench seat and twinkling fairy lights.
Santa has his own village in the
Expo Explore area at the opposite end of the mall (outside Sportsmans Warehouse), with plenty to see and do. But his pride and joy is the virtual sleigh ride! “
Technology is amazing,” says Shelley. “
You can hop on the sleigh and feel the sensations of soaring around the world."
The Virtual Sleigh Ride will be operating from 03 – 24 December 2021.
The mind-bending
World of Illusions will be dressed up in festive finery from mid-November. “
Kids (young and old) are loving seeing themselves in unbelievable scenarios,” says Shelley. “
We are using the same illusion principles, but the six rooms will have a festive snap-ready holiday theme.” How good do you think you’ll look inside a snow globe?
The
giant Disney tree will be back, grander than ever and a must-see. Decorated with plush Disney characters donated as part of a charity drive, they are gifted to vulnerable children, sharing the generous festive spirit.
Giving back to the community and offering a valuable service to shoppers,
Reach for a Dream will have a gift-wrapping station set up in the mall. That’s a win-win!

Festive Season Trading Hours
Gateway’s extended trading hours make it possible to enjoy more of the mall for longer.
From 15 – 23 December 2021, Gateway will be open from 09:00 to 22:00, and close at 21:00 on Christmas Eve and from 26 – 30 December 2021.
