#ForTheKids: Painting Fun At Art Jamming

Joburg Admin / April 6, 2018

Time For Some Art Jamming! We first discovered Art Jamming a few years ago, and make a plan to visit at least once during the school holidays. Kayla is now 12 and STILL enjoys going there, as does Isabella, my 5-year-old. The two of them will happily spend over two hours sitting at their easels, chatting away, and admiring each other’s handiwork. While I grab a takeaway cappuccino and enjoy a few heavenly hours of peace and quiet (also known as shopping). Art Jamming In a nutshell, Art Jamming is dedicated to helping kids get in touch with their creativity. There are no rules and zero guidelines – kids can paint whatever they choose. Simply purchase and pay for a canvas, and everything else is covered – paint on tap, brushes, tools and supervision. Art Jamming At this age, Isabella is quite keen to explore various painting “techniques” and needs very little adult input. She has been known to finish a painting, turn it over, and paint on the back! Kayla is the opposite – she prefers to choose one of the many designs that are freely available and trace it onto her canvas. She also sometimes ask one of the resident assistants to draw something for her – and they are more than willing to help out. Her favourite is definitely the “splash zone” where kids can, quite literally, throw paint at the canvas. I’m dying to give it a try! Art Jamming Art Jamming is also a fantastic idea for kids’ parties – imagine 2 hours of painting time, as well as the option to provide additional catering. Corporate team building is also on offer – you can imagine the discussions that take place while everyone is painting, not to mention the life lessons that are learned in the process. You know, how the fear of failure can cripple a project? Or how mistakes can be woven into a design to make it even better than before? At present, there are THREE Art Jamming venues in Joburg – Melrose Arch, Cresta and Bedfordview. Click here for details. Highly recommended: Kayla gives it an 8/10 Art Jamming For More Information For more information about Art Jamming, you can visit www.artjamming.co.za or email [email protected].
