Exclusive Books Partners With Uber Eats To Bring Bestsellers To Your Door

Joburg Admin / May 11, 2020

Exclusive Books Lockdown Initiatives

Under level 5 lockdown, Exclusive Books were not permitted to trade. As the new level 4 regulations came into effect on Friday, 01 May 2020, book lovers across South Africa waited with bated breath. Would our favourite bookstore be allowed to operate as an essential service? Thankfully, the answer is yes! However, Exclusive Books have implemented a number of initiatives to make shopping for your books safe and contactless during lockdown. On Thursday, 07 May 2020, they made an exciting announcement - you can now order your books through Uber Eats for delivery direct to your door! Together they will be bringing avid readers a delectable menu of bestsellers. So, if you have run out of lockdown reading material, but aren't quite ready to visit your nearest Exclusive Books store, simply download the Uber Eats app and get shopping! Exclusive Books

Here's how it works:

  1. Download the Uber Eats app on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign up and enter your address and billing details.
  3. Search for your closest Exclusive Books branch.
  4. Browse through their selection of best selling local and international fiction, non-fiction and children's books.
  5. Select the books you want to order and proceed to checkout.
There are only four Johannesburg stores currently offering this service with Uber Eats, but Exclusive Books is looking to roll out nationwide over the coming weeks. If you live within a 5km radius of EB Hyde Park Corner, EB Sandton City, EB Mall of Africa or EB Nicolway Bryanston, you will be able to order from Uber Eats. Enter this promotional code - UNLTDZA  - at checkout for free delivery on meals, essentials and books with Uber Eats until 31 May 2020. You will also be able to earn Fanatics Points on these purchases. Simply type your Fanatics card number into the comments section when placing your order. To help you protect yourself, your loved ones and the community, Uber Eats furthermore encourages no-contact delivery. Select "Leave at door" at checkout in the app to ensure your delivery complies with health and safety standards. [embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/B_4ZnkenNH5/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link[/embed]

Our Top Picks

As always, Exclusive Books will be offering their customers the very best in local and international reads during lockdown. If you're looking for something to get stuck into while at home, check out these best sellers available on the Uber Eats app, perfect to curl up with on a chilly winter's day:

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Paulo Coelho's master work has topped best seller lists worldwide, garnering 62 million readers along the way. The Alchemist is a beautiful parable about learning to listen to your heart, read the omens strewn along life's path and, above all, follow your dreams. Santiago, a young shepherd living in the hills of Andalucia, feels that there is more to life than his humble home and his flock. One day he finds the courage to follow his dreams into distant lands, each step galvanised by the knowledge that he is following the right path: his own. The people he meets along the way, the things he sees and the wisdom he learns are life-changing. This is a definite must-read during these uncertain times. Available on Uber Eats for *R214,50.

A Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela

If you have never read Nelson Mandela's moving autobiography, now is the ideal time to get yourself a copy. The book profiles Mandela's early life, his coming of age, his education and his 27 years spent in prison. As one of the most prolific figures in recent history, his autobiography provides insight into South Africa's dark past and the great pains it took to overcome oppression. Available on Uber Eats for *R332,20.

The Book of Gifts by Craig Higginson

The Book of Gifts has been described as Craig Higginson's most gripping and nuanced novel to date. At eleven years old, Julian Flint prefers to remain invisible, safe inside the architecture of adults provided by his mother, his uncle and his aunt. But when his mother, Emma, a celebrated sculptor, takes them all on a family holiday to a hotel by the sea, he meets the captivating and irreverent Clare and everything he thought he knew begins to shift - setting off a chain of events that will determine each of their fates. Set among the lush beaches of Umhlanga Rocks, Johannesburg and the rich and strange coral reefs of Mauritius, The Book of Gifts is sure to provide a much-needed escape from the lockdown lows. Available on Uber Eats for *R321,20.

A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende

Chilean author, Isabel Allende is a master of weaving fictional stories into real life events. Her latest novel, A Long Petal of the Sea, takes place at the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939. Victor Dalmau is a young doctor caught up in the Spanish Civil War, a tragedy that leaves his life - and the fate of his country - forever changed. Together with his sister-in-law, the pianist Roser, he is forced out of his beloved Barcelona and into exile. When the opportunity to seek refuge arises, they board a ship to Chile chartered by the poet Pablo Neruda, the promised 'long petal of sea and wine and snow'. This highly-anticipated novel is sure to sell out fast, so get yourself a copy as soon as possible. Available on Uber Eats for *R310,20.

Super Natural by Sarah Graham

Our favourite TV chef and author, Sarah Graham is back with a follow up to her undeniably popular cookbook, Wholesome. This time, Sarah delves into the mass of information regarding plant-based eating and whole foods. Super Natural features budget-friendly recipes centred on vegetables and natural, whole foods, celebrating seasonal produce, good fats and whole grains, pulses and legumes. This is the ideal cookbook to invest in amidst the global climate crisis as it promotes mindful eating and food consciousness. Plus, there are tons of great dinner ideas to try out during lockdown. Available on Uber Eats for *R345,50. [embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/B_2OxHojZJM/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link[/embed]
