A Kwaito Journey In Ekasi Lam At The Market Theatre

Joburg Admin / August 14, 2019

As much as music is a universal language, South Africa still has a diversity of its own when it comes to the love of music and the lifestyle and culture behind the multifaceted genres established in the country. So we are excited to be part of A Kwaito Journey In Ekasi Lam At The Market Theatre. Ekasi Lam Market Theatre Johannesburg

It's Kwaito Music...

Kwaito music plays a significant role in Mzansi, we pride ourselves in the beauty of how much diversity we have and the depth of this genre that shifted stereotypes, broke boundaries, inspired many to dress a certain way and most of all, brought many together to have a great time. We get to relive that piece of nostalgia through the energetic and witty Ekasi Lam. This theatre performance is a journey that travels through Scamtho, Ringas and Kwaito. Here is a quick low down... Scamtho & Ringas - Are terms (words) that describe a language that was formed in South Africa, which is basically a mixture of a couple of our stew of languages. Kwaito - A South African music genre developed in the 90's. Ekasi Lam Market Theatre Johannesburg

And Storytelling

Dr Tlale, a dedicated Principal with the vision of building an advanced school in Soweto. His former student teaches at the school, and the feisty Ms Feni who wants to be a part of this vision by contributing a new way of looking at Poetry and how it is taught – this by introducing Kwaito to the literary syllabus. “It is an introspective look at ourselves, through our most refined lens of art. As odes go, they are lyrical, emotive texts of praise – and Kwaito is just that to Black Life”, says J.Bobs Tshabalala. You don't want to miss out. When Is It?
