DIY Face Mask Recipes For Beautiful Skin

Joburg Admin / April 8, 2020

The Nourishing Honey Mask

Great for treating acne and rich in Vitamin B, this nourishing honey mask recipe from Marie Claire's Best Homemade Face Masks is a must-try if you're looking to nourish your complexion and give it that beautiful glow. For this mask, all you'll need is two chamomile tea bags, raw honey and nutritional yeast. Here's how to make the mask:
  1. Brew one cup of chamomile tea with two tea bags and let cool completely.
  2. In a tiny bowl, stir together one tablespoon of manuka or raw honey, and one teaspoon of nutritional yeast.
  3. Add just enough chamomile tea to the bowl to create a thicker paste that's still runny enough to spread across your skin, but not too watery.
  4. Apply a thin layer to your face and let sit for 20 minutes.
  5. Rinse off and pat dry.
  6. Moisturise.

The Organic Banana Face Mask

Have a few bananas that need to be consumed or used before they go off? Why not use them to make this organic banana face mask, also listed in Marie Claire's Best Homemade Face Masks. This one is ideal for all skin types and if you want to add a natural glow to your complexion. Here's how to make this tropical face mask:
  1. Mash one-half of a banana in a bowl.
  2. Mix in a tablespoon of orange juice and a tablespoon of honey.
  3. Apply the mask to your face (lumps are totally fine!) and keep the mixture on for 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water and then moisturise.

The Breakfast Mask

Okay, we need to mention one more facial mask from Marie Claire's Best Homemade Face Masks because they all sound so good and are so easy to make! The DIY Breakfast Mask is easy because you'll surely have all of these ingredients sitting in your pantry! The benefits of this mask includes calming and mattifying oily skin while also soothing. Here's how to make it:
  1. Combine one egg yolk, one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of olive oil with half a cup of oatmeal.
  2. Stir well, then apply it to your face for 15 – 20 minutes.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water (make sure your drain is cool with oatmeal!) and then moisturise.

A Cucumber And Aloe Vera Mask

For a DIY face mask that moisturises and cleanses, try this cucumber and aloe vera mask from Sio Beauty. All you'll need are a few slices of cucumber and some aloe vera gel (most medicine cabinets have this for sunburn). This mask will leave your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated! This is how you make this moisturising mask:
  1. Cut half a cucumber into slices (great way to use fruit and veggies that are going off during the lockdown).
  2. Place cucumber slices into a blender and blitz until it's watery.
  3. Add two tablespoons of aloe vera gel into the blitzed cucumber slices then blend until smooth.
  4. Apply mixture onto your face and leave it on for 30 minutes.
  5. Rinse off with cool water and pat your skin dry.

A Grape Exfoliating And Hydrating Face Mask

Exfoliate and hydrate your skin at the same time with this DIY grape face mask, also from Sio Beauty. The beauty of grapes is their weak acid makes for a great gentle exfoliant and the Vitamin E in the fruit helps skin retain moisture for a healthy glow. As for the results, your skin will feel tighter and smoother. Best of all, you only need two ingredients to make this mask:
  1. Mash 12 grapes in a mixing bowl.
  2. Sprinkle in one teaspoon of flour.
  3. Mix well and spread the mixture on your face.
  4. Let the mask sit for 15 minutes.
  5. Rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry.

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Evenly apply the mixture on your face.
  3. Let it sit on your face until dry.
  4. Rinse off with lukewarm water then pat your face dry.
