It has been terribly hard to stick to my Banting Diet when there are so many delicious sweet treats and glorious carbs out there! The hardest part was giving up my utmost favourite treats in the whole entire world – Spicy BBQ flavoured Nik Naks and Cheesecake. Once the sugar and carb cravings had subsided (which seemed to torture me for weeks!), all was okay. I was coping well and getting used to eating healthily – cauliflower and broccoli mash, meat, and loads of eggs - that is until Crystal and I headed to
Decadence Cakes, Cupcakes and Confectionery in Kyalami. Needless to say, I buckled for one day, but it was totally worth it!
Situated at the Kyalami On Main Centre, this little bakery is definitely what you would expect. Yes, it may be small, but the treats that come out of this sweet spot are definitely among the best that I have ever tasted. The moment you walk in, you are greeted by a big display of various baked goodies –
Butter Biscuits, Strawberry and Chocolate Mousse, Red Velvet Cupcakes, Carrot Cupcakes, Brownies, the works! Everything is freshly baked daily from scratch and all of their recipes have been tried and tested to ensure only the best tasting cakes and cupcakes possible. They find and get most of their ideas from social media or suggestions from customers. And, along with
Decadence Cakes, Cupcakes and Confectionery really go out of their way to satisfy their customers – if there is something special you need baked for a special occasion, they are more than willing to offer a few suggestions and ideas, and only need about twenty minutes of your time in the store to get a feel for what you want and ordering. You can leave the rest up to them!
After browsing through all of the baked treats they had to offer, we finally got the chance to try and indulge in a variety to sweet goodies. Since my ultimate indulgence is cheesecake, I definitely had to see if theirs tasted as good as they looked – and I was not disappointed! The
Bake Cheesecake was absolutely amazing and the best I have ever tasted! And the chilled
Mixed Berry Cheesecake was to die for! The texture of both was so smooth and I could NOT believe that the chilled cheesecake was egg free! Once we had devoured those, we tried the
Rainbow Red Velvet Cake – each layer was a different colour and all so vibrant! We also got to taste the oh-so fragrant
Lemon Meringue – by far the most lemony and tastiest lemon meringue I have ever had. I have never been a fan but after trying theirs, I’m definitely hooked. And, last but not least on the sweet side of life, we got to tuck into a decadent
Mille Feuille, which was light and crispy with smooth and delicious custard between the layers!
And, if that wasn’t enough, we also got the opportunity to try out some savoury baked goods too. They make their own homemade pies, and I must say I will definitely pick up a
Chicken Mushroom Pie for lunch for their bakery any day! The pies have a crispy golden brown pastry and the filling is so full of flavour and generous! And the
croissants – crunchy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside! Absolutely amazing! Everything was definitely worth ditching my diet for one day.
